Why will Aaron Murray be the best QB of the CMR era?
Because he can be.
Almost everyone of y'all hate PAM and think JTIII is better. That's ok, just like its ok for me not to be sold on CTG after his defense gave up 100 points in the 2nd half of the last two games he's coached.
Looking back, Georgia has been blessed at the QB position for the better part of the last two decades. Murray's numbers, through 2 seasons, are better than any QB under CMR in almost every category. Murray has thrown for more TD's and yards and has a higher QB rating and completion percentage than Stafford and Greene had in their freshman and sophomore seasons. Through two seasons Murray has thrown 5 more picks than Green and 1 less than Stafford.
All this coming behind an average line at best, and no consistent running threat whatsoever. Stafford had Moreno for 2 of his 3 seasons and Greene played behind one of the best offensive lines in school history his sophomore year. DG's junior year saw him throw 13 TD's and 11 INT's behind a mostly rookie line. Shockley had arguably the best single season of any QB under CMR with his combination of passing and running. Shockley's TD-Int ratio was ridiculous but his QB rating was not one of the best of the era. That title belongs to Murray in 2010.
This being said, Murray needs to have a big year. He still doesn't know what to expect from his line and he doesn't know who his RB 's are. 2012 is Part III with those situations. However, he can't give up the ball as he did in crucial situations last year and he has to lead the Dawgs to a big win. If you really want to be fair, Murray hasn't had an ample amount of opportunities to lead a comeback or beat a great team. Against LSU he was better than ever in the 1st half but didn't have much help. In his most critical comeback opportunity he gave Carolina 6 points. For most people's approval he needs to have a game they make a DVD about. Fair or not.
David Greene was a very good QB that became great because of David Pollack and Thomas Davis. Stafford is remembered more fondly in large part due to Moreno. Murray's numbers are no doubt the best of any in this group. Chances are, Jarvis Jones and Malcom Mitchell will be the difference in Murray being another of CMR's great QB's or being the greatest.
